The War On Drugs, Purling Hiss at Emo’s

9PM | $10 | Emo’s Inside

Long before Kurt Vile ever released a solo record he was working with then California-to-Philly transplant Adam Granduciel on a project called the War On Drugs, who were signed by Jagjaguwar-affiliate Secretly Canadian in 2007. Vile split in late 2008 but not before contributing to Wagonwheel Blues, the band’s standout debut LP that drew comparisons to Dylan for its unique breed of vintage Americana. Having released their second LP Slave Ambient this past August to much critical acclaim (including an 8.3 from Pitchfork) Granduciel has come into his own without Vile by his side. Stream “Come To The City” below via our brand-spankin-new Soundcloud and make sure to get there early to catch Purling Hiss and Carter Tanton.
