4/21: The Sword at Emo’s East

Doors at 9PM | $15 adv/$17 | with American Sharks

What do you get when you mix Black Sabbath, The Melvins, Slayer and Deep Purple? According to the band themselves: The Sword. Austin’s own doom metal/stoner rock hybrid return to Emo’s East less than a month after signing a new multi-album record deal with Razor & Tie, one of the most rapidly expanding independent labels in the country. Slated to start production on their fourth studio album this June with a projected release date of fall 2012, this might be your only chance to catch a glimpse at some raw demos before they’re reworked for the new album. Don’t underestimate the power of the approaching holiday and get your tickets sooner than later.

101X Presents: Brujeria at Emo’s East

10/8 | 9PM | $20 | Emo’s East

Almost 20 years ago Brujeria released their debut album Mantando Güeros which pictured a severed head on the cover, and ever since they have refused to listen to anyone else but themselves. Openly forthright about satanism, witchcraft and class struggles, Brujeria have released some of the most provocative metal albums of the last few decades, even making it on MTV before ever playing their first show. Keeping their faces concealed in an attempt to put emphasis on their message and not their individual performances, Brujeria has featured a rotating cast of band members including Dino Cazares from Fear Factory. Check out their video below for “La Ley De Plomo” and don’t miss them with Pinhead at Emo’s East this Saturday.
