Two of California’s most progressive punk bands are set to rip through the Beauty Ballroom June first for what’s shaping up to be another memorable Chaos In Tejas. Fresh off their first ATP in England No Age joins a band who are no strangers to CIT, Rohnert Park’s Ceremony. Though their new album Zoo is far less aggressive than the pit-inducing hardcore that brought them to where they are, Ceremony’s take on the emerging post-punk of the late 70’s sounds as fresh as a first pressing of Pink Flag. In a few years time Art vs. Science has gone from just another local Sydney band to winning the 2011 ARIA Award (think Grammy’s down under) for Best Independent Release. Having toured with La Roux & Groove Armada in the UK as well as racking up a slew of chart-topping singles it’s refreshing to know that this trio has broke into international status all on their own. Brandishing a sound that comes off like a synth-heavy Justice with the catchy pop-rock choruses you’d expect from Miike Snow, you can imagine why they’ve garnered so much appeal. Austin’s own electro-disco trio Fresh Millions and Cheap Curls (feat. Katie from the Dum Dum Girls) round out a bill that’s sure to give the start of your weekend a boost, get your tickets via the new Beauty Ballroom website.

Doors at 9 PM | $20 adv/$25 | with Zeale (full band), Phranchyze feat. Kid Slyce, DJ Notion
While gangsta rap took over the airwaves in the early 90s the Pharcyde took a willfully weird, left-field approach to hip hop that was still uniquely ‘West Coast.’ Their producer J-Swift laced their early recordings with a jazz-funk stew of everything from Quincy Jones to Whodini to Hendrix, helping mold their critically acclaimed album Bizarre Ride II and earning them comparisons to De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest. After reuniting in 2008 for Rock the Bells Tour the Pharcyde continue to prove they are not to be overlooked in the 2000s, don’t miss out on your chance to see these visionary rappers live at the Beauty Ballroom supported by two of Austin’s finest - Zeale and Phranchyze.
