Chaos In Tejas: Cockney Rejects at Emo’s East 5/31
The streets of East London in the late 70’s were filled with hooliganism, football rivalries and the Cockney Rejects, who were no stranger to any of the above. Anchored around brothers Jeff and Micky Geggus who boxed at the national level and grew up loyal supporters of West Ham United the Rejects let their street-wise lifestyle dictate their punk rock demeanor, openly mocking the British Movement of the far-right as the “German Movement” in their first major interview and even ripping off a Sham 69 song just for the fun of it. Single-handedly responsible for the Oi! movement with their song “Oi, Oi, Oi,” Chaos In Tejas never fails to bring the most influential punk and hardcore bands to Austin in early June. On May 31st East London meets East Austin, join the Rejects and get your tickets now.

For almost thirty years Max Cavalera has single-handedly been at the forefront of metal and hardcore. As a teenager Cavalera founded Sepultura, experimenting with death and thrash metal in the mid 80’s long before those genres were household names. After multiple gold and platinum records Cavalera left Sepultura in the mid 90’s and formed Soulfly, incorporating even more of his Brazilian heritage into Soulfly’s debut self-titled album with an onslaught of tribal drums and spiritual overtones. Originally inspired by the gang-related death of Cavalera’s stepson, Soulfly went on to cover themes surrounding war, violence, aggression and anger en route to all six of their albums breaking into the Billboard 200. There’s a reason Cavalera has been around for decades, enjoying commercial success while retaining the same fan base he’s had since he was a teenager, and your chance to witness that reason is next Tuesday when Soulfly celebrates fifteen years of keeping it brutal at Emo’s East. Don’t miss it.
