9 PM | $5 | Emo’s Inside | with Mr. Lewis & The Funeral 5, Zero Skills
Back in the days when no one had to worry much about keeping Austin weird, The Hickoids were doing their best to make it the weirdest place in Texas, if not on earth - William Michael Smith, Houston Press Today
In the mid-80’s Hickoids were topping polls in The Chronicle and taking their raucous brand of country-infused cow punk all across the U.S. After a sobering hiatus in the 90’s they reformed in 2005 and haven’t looked back since, releasing two albums in that span of time including a tribute to the classic Brit-rock artists of the 60’s entitled Kicking It With The Twits. Self-described “Macabaret” artists Mr. Lewis and the Funeral 5 bring their Tom Waits-inspired orchestra of analog synths and big band horn sections to Emo’s Inside as they help Hickoids kick off the first night of Emo’s Apocalypse Vol. 1: a farewell concert series at the original Emo’s featuring the most celebrated local bands from past and present. Twenty-nine days until we close the doors for good, the Apocalypse begins tonight!
