This past SXSW Pandora Radio transformed Antone’s nightclub into the Pandora Discovery Den, marking the personalized radio mogul’s first official presence at the festival. Though the Discovery Den featured a week’s worth of bands as diverse as the multitude of channels offered on the radio service itself, Theophilus London easily stole the show the very first night of SXSW Music. After L.A.-based K. Flay impressed with a dynamic live show, even building one of her singles “No Duh” from scratch with her Akai sampler, Big K.R.I.T. stormed on stage for a raucous performance that culminated with him landing in the audience and chanting one of his anthemic choruses as if he was in the middle of a crowded house party. By the time Theophilus appeared (donning a tie-died Thrasher shirt and a bright red, sheik-like handkerchief) there was no avoiding his antics: a live band that was prone to stage diving, a one-on-one serenade with a girl plucked from the audience, even abruptly stopping his DJ mid-song just to introduce a host of new music he had been itching to debut. Better start organizing your calendar, we got parties all day every day and it doesn’t let up with CYP2 at Emo’s East Thursday, March 15th. RSVP via Do512 ya heard?

The emergence of personalized radio is rewriting the basic rules for musicians. As Pandora achieves true scale, now counting over 125 million registered listeners in the U.S., it brings with it unprecedented opportunity for thousands of artists, many of whom have never spun on radio before. This is an exciting moment in the history of the music business and we are thrilled to be at SXSW to talk about our vision for the future. - TIm Westergreen, CSO, Pandora

Last weekend the brand new Beauty Ballroom opened its doors at 2015 E. Riverside. Though it was only a soft opening, as the official Grand Opening is this weekend with Theophilus London on Friday and Daniel Johnston on Saturday, both Kendrick Lamar and the RAC DJs boasted two impressive performances to christen Austin’s newest venue. Check out more photos below and make sure to grab your tickets for this weekend.
